Carbon Fiber Bathtub: Reasons You May Want To Consider It

What type of bathtub do you currently have installed in your home? If it’s a Carbon Fiber bathtub then you’re on the right track. Most modern homes have a regular acrylic or fiberglass bathtub is installed. Other homeowners may opt for a cast iron or steel tub topped with enamel. These types of tubs are popular because they’re generally very economical. Unfortunately, economical doesn’t necessarily mean better. A Carbon Fiber bathtub is considered one of the best and most stylish bathtubs around. This is likely due to the fact that carbon fiber has emerged as a beneficial and attractive material. Carbon fiber is very versatile, and the bathtub manufacturing industry has taken notice.

Carbon Fiber Can Be A Bit Unconventional

For starters, as odd as it may sound, a Carbon Fiber bathtub is black. This will likely surprise most people who are used to seeing a white bathtub. The color of the tub comes from the carbon fiber it’s constructed from. Even though it sounds odd, these tubs are becoming popular because of how aesthetically pleasing they can be. The color is very bold, beautiful, and stands out from more traditional bathtubs.

How Does A Carbon Fiber bathtub Differ?

So you like the sound of a black bathtub, but can’t seem to understand what makes it so much better. The color alone doesn’t make the tub better than more conventional tubs. The benefits come from the material itself. How often do you run hot bathwater, only to have it cool down a short while later? Carbon fiber is a better insulator than most materials. This ability to insulate allows these types of bathtubs to retain heat for a longer period of time. When you run hot bathwater, the material doesn’t allow as much heat to escape as other acrylic or fiberglass tubs.

Its ability to retain heat isn’t the only advantage of Carbon Fiber bathtub. What’s one of the most common attributes shared amongst steel, iron cast, and other traditional bathtubs? The answer would be weight. Although size does matter, most of these regular sized traditional tubs are extremely heavy. Unfortunately, the heavier a tub is the more difficult it is to haul and install. Among the reasons carbon fiber has become popular, is the fact that the material is known for being both durable and light. It’s extremely lightweight and very strong compared to most metals. In fact, carbon fiber is nearly seven times stronger than steel. Not only that, but it’s a quarter the weight of steel as well. This means that having a Carbon Fiber bathtub would make your tub easier to move, and possibly easier to install as well.

For What It’s Worth

All of these benefits do come at a price however. A traditional and regular sized bathtub will cost around $500 or $600. Even though fiberglass and acrylic tubs are less expensive, they have their disadvantages as well. These tubs are not always stable, not very durable, and can be prone to cracks, scratches and fading finishes. A Carbon Fiber bathtub, however, is able to withstand many of these problems. Because of this, you can expect to pay anywhere from $34,000 to as much as $70,000. Some may consider this price range to be overly expensive, but the best tubs don’t come cheap. If you can afford it, you should consider a purchase of a Carbon Fiber bathtub to be an excellent investment.
